Here is a review I found on walmart.com
I was on a serious budget when my high dollar HPC5180 went haywire on me. I have a Windows Laptop and a Mac desktop that are on a wi-fi connection. Now I would've loved to buy a little bit fancier machine...but I'm in sales and January is a bit of a tough month...so I set out for three days researching printers--what a tough job that is--there are hundreds out there-I went to amazon, cnet, epinions, & walmart to read reviews...Walmarts prices were so much better, that I decided to look up each printer there and then compare... My HP was slick and I loved that thing--after researching it, I saw it had the same problem over and over-yellow cartridge reading 'empty' with brand new cartridges...This Canon isn't as slick--it's your basic boring, non-shiny, plastic exterior. The Paper holder in the back is a little disappointing because it's not long enough and the paper sitting there will bend over the top of the holder--but it's good because it reminds me to pull it out and close it up when I'm not using it--I figure that should keep dust out of it. Several folks said they thought the ink cartridge was awful, but I had a Canon years ago and didn't find it that crazy--it definately has to SNAP into place, but there's a picture right there inside the machine, so it give you a little confidence AND I find it a little bit satisfying to hear a Click when I know it's in there. I haven't gone on a massive printing spree yet--when I start traveling I will--that being said, the ink level light hasn't come on and I've printed various school projects--pages of pictures for bottle cap necklaces-100 2" pictures for a poster and overall I am pleased with the picture quality. I expected the quality of pictures to be 'iffy' on regular paper and good on picture paper--that was how it was on my HP...but I was pleasantly surprised-the canon did a better job--I know when it comes time to do my calendars and print out extra product brochures, this printer will do nicely. The cartridges are not too pricey, but there is an option for a more expensive set--I'm guessing those are specifically for printing pictures--but I have yet to find anywhere for it to tell me that-even the printer manual doesn't say-the cheaper ink is working just fine. This printer is actually MUCH quieter than my HP C5180! Scanning: EXCELLENT--I've only scanned flat images, pictures actually and left them on the computer, but it will do some seriously high resolution and is easy to chose lower resolution. I've printed from both my mac and window machines and with my other printer, it was two entirely different programs--the program looks the same on both computers-that blew me away--my HP had more features when I used my windows laptop...The program is user friendly too. Copies: slightly lighter than the original--but this is on the default setting--I haven't played around to see if I can adjust the setting--I just pressed the black copy button on the top twice and my original had a light spot, so comparing the two, it's across the board lighter--barely. (that may be adjustable too) My main disappointment is only my fault, because I meant to look for a machine that will copy AND resize larger or smaller--I didn't get that with this machine--that is a feature I need. For now, I will scan the item in and use photo editing software to resize--which is a time-consuming albeit money-saving thing to do. All in all, I'm pleased--it's not that pretty to look at after looking at my slick, pretty HP--but pretty is as pretty does and my canon is beautiful to me. Overall a good value and this machine is hard-working! (I like that it has the energy star logo on there--makes me feel better if I forget to turn it off) The other good thing is these printers are not made to last--it's a shame, because I'm a loyal sort of gal who has a hard time parting with equipment that has worked hard for me...The GREAT thing about buying this machine from Walmart--besides the unbeatable price--is the fact that you can buy a 1,2 or 3 year replacement warranty for next to nothing--like, under $10...That should help with your worries of it dying on you!!!
